About my Lesson

This lesson is deigned to using UDL framework and following Common Core Standards. This lesson aligns with common core reading standards for literature K-5, Key Ideas and Details: 3. Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text. In this lesson, students will be learning about Realistic Fiction and it’s elements (definition, plot, setting, characters). It will begin with a video overview of what Realistic Fiction is. Then students will participate as a whole group to read and understand the Piktochart created about Realistic Fiction elements. Next students will break up into small groups and engage in a Genre Sort, which will then be gone over as a class using a Smartboard version. Following, students will work independently to complete the Kahoot quiz to assess their understanding. Lastly, students will listen to a read-aloud of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst and then independently submit an exit ticket via VoiceThread that answers the question, “what makes this book realistic fiction?”
